I have a few of these germinating, only problem is that I don't know what to do with them! The packet mentions nothing about removing male flowers, and although the address of the seed company is British (Bentley's seeds), it says that they can be sown outside from January to May.  :o
Obviously this is incorrect for the UK, but I want to know 2 things:

1. Do I remove the male flowers?

2. Greenhouse or outside?

I grew Burpless Tasty Green outside last year, and got a pretty good crop, don't know if these are meant to be the same cultivar?  ???

I hope they are the same as I have sown some of these this year on that basis!

Gardening advice given to me re BTG cucs was that you grow them outside (and I did last year in a patio pot and had quite a few cucs), and also leave the flowers alone as they don't make the fruits bitter as with inside cucs.

I can find no reference to "Burpless Long Green" anywhere, where did they come from?
If in doubt I'd grow them in the same way as BTG

Truth is, MT, I can't remember!

Wilko's?

Could've been anywhere, I've bought so many seeds that I've lost track.

May have been a local garden centre, actually.

I think I'm just going to do the same as Suzanne and treat them as BTG as I can't find anything on the internet, either.

Where did you get yours, Suzanne?

I've got some burpless which I got from Suttons.  The back of the packet says grow outside and to leave both male & female flowers as insects will pollinate.  It also says that you can train the plant to climb trellis to save space.  I can send you a copy of the back of the packet if you like, by mail or email

Hope this helps.

Are yours Burpless Tasty Green?

Mine are Burpless Long Green.

And I have the packet, but it must be meant for a different weather zone.

I don't reckon they'd germinate in January, outside... ::)

Sorry yes mine are Tasty.  It says to sow them in April/May so they must be different

I had a look on the Internet and I think that Burpless Tasty Green is just the UK name and elsewhere (America) they call them Burpless Long Green
