Signed the agreement yesterday for my very first allotment and dh, ds as well as PIL are all going to help start clearing it this weekend (its completely covered in couch) I was thinking that I would be too late for potatoes but several of you have told me otherwise & it would be nice to get at least one bed planted before the end of the month. However I want to be completely organic I have no idea where I can get hold of any organic seed so late in the year. Does anyone know of any companies who have some still left? The only company I am aware of is HDRA & they have completely sold out :(

Long shot would be Tuckers Seeds, I got some for them in May a couple of years back.

If you are really stuck I have some left over, Main crop: Arran Victory, Ratte. Second Early Kestral and Early Foremost and Mimi.

Ta for the offer - I may well take you up on that if I cant find any!

Another question - what preparation do I need to do to the soil apart from digging it thouroughly? Everything I can find says to manure in the previous autumn, but obviously I cant do that! Shall I just bung em in & hope or do I need to add anything? :-\

Off to make a phone call to Tuckers to see what they have left.

Give it a dig over and add some pelleted chicken manure or fish blood and bone for a feed. If you know anyone with comfry plants they may be will to spare a few leaves which can be planted with the tubers as well.

The sit back and wait until the folligae starts to appear and then start earthing up as required.

stupid question again - Is it worth getting earlies or just maincrop?

Still time for main crops, they might not get to be huge bakers but they will still yield OK as long as blight stays away.
