Thanks for the warm welcome,i do not have an allotment of my own yet,  but am hopefully going to buy a house that backs straight onto the allotment and have been assured by current owner that i will be able to take over the allotment at the bottom of the garden that he has rented for the past 15 years but done nothing to for the past 3 years, just hoping everything goes smoothly as it all seems too good to be true at the moment,a house we love and an allotment through a gate at the bottom of the garden!Becky. :)

I have had an allotment since October but had to wait until January to start because the people either side of me wanted the whole area ploughed (it was just field to start with) now I am ahead of either side they're a bit fazed by the ploughed ground it's clay so it's not easy. I have a mattock and I have used that to break down the furrows then I just dig the bits I'm cultivating. I managed to get my Raspberries in so far. I recommend a mattock to anyone trying to break in new ground or remove shrubs or blackberry it's very effective one of my neighbours has an adzada and it is also very effective.

I wish my allotment was so close!
