Was thinking of making my own but my local supermarket are doing quite a wide range and I have been eating one kind or another for my evening meal - with thin wholemeal biscuits -  for ages now (plus large bowl of fresh fruit). The one I like best has olives in it.  The plain one just looks too plain. They do a low fat but don't fancy it.  They ran out of my favourite so I had to buy their superior one which has sun dried tomatoes, coriander and garlic. I think it's a nourishing food, lots of protein with all those chickpeas

hello florald and welcome to the threads!
Your comments reminded me that some peeps have tried growing their own chickpeas, and just to demonstrate that this is a gardening as well as eating community  ;) ::) you might enjoy reports at http://www.allotments4all.co.uk/joomla/component/option,com_smf/Itemid,57/topic,13298.0

Hi agapanthus, when I am doing weight watchers, I make it without the tahini as per below. P ::)

Measure in cooked chickpeas to top of pint jug, plus their liquid.
Add
juice of 1.5-2 lemons
2 heaping tbs tahini
2+ cloves of garlic
1 heaping tsp salt

Put in a bowl and mash or blend til chunky or smooth. Add more salt or lemon juice to taste.
My son likes to add a handful of fresh green coriander, dried or fresh chillis, or a dash of toasted cumin. And treble garlic ;D

Hope I'm not too late to add my recipe:

220g cooked chickpeas
1tb extra virgin olive oil
1tb sunflower oil
2tbs tahini
juice of half a lemon
3-4 garlic cloves
salt
cooking water or plain water

I lightly fry the garlic in a tiny bit of oil first as my home-gown garlic tastes a bit raw/burney on it's own, then I blitz the whole lot together. I used a single estate olive oil last night and drizzled a bit over the top as well - Yum! My recipe makes 4 servings.

I love the M&S version topped with roasted tomatoes too - I want to try to replicate that at home.

Also want to try blending in a roasted pepper as a variation or perhaps some sun-dried tomates.

I have one serving as a meal with carrot sticks, cucumber sticks and a bit of pita or white bread - delish!
Lottie-less until I can afford a house with it's own garden.

Thanks Supersprout...will be making that this weekend ;D
