I want to grow some early potatoes which I can use for salad/mashed/roasting but don't know much about varieties. My favourite potatoes are king edward are their any earlies that are similar in flavour and more importantly texture?

hi stuffed
my fav potatoes are marfonas, we get them from a farm shop for £4 per sack. they are very versatile and roast very quickly (caught me out a few times) apparantly they are difficult to grow cos they are not very resistant! although my oh's dad grew some last year from the peelings and they turned out great, so along with all my other variaties i'm gonna do the same, not many incase they dont work and dont want to have wasted space.

The depth of my ignorance is incredible...you can grow spuds from

??? PEELINGS ???

Really?

aparantly so, i'll ask him exactly how he did it, whether he just put them in the ground or what?!! I will let you know :)

I am obviously ignorant too !!! I had always assumed peelings would just shrivel up and rot away. How educational this forum is!
The impossible is just a journey away ...

That's what they did in WW2; there was no food to waste so they ate the spuds and planted the peelings. It worked.

A piece of peeling that has a eye will sprout into a potatoe plant my grand father did it that way years ago
