Please help,
I've got vine weevel in my plant pots outside. I noticed one today when the astilbe I had was being re-potted. Lots of white fat curly things were tangled in the roots with a brown spot for a face I think  ::) The astilbe ... well nothing left of it apart from a small round rootball which seems to have shrunk down 10 times. I'm gutted. I think they are in my lily's as well but don't know the damage as The lily bulbs aren't out yet!

I have quite a few and I think they are in most of them! Please tell me a product I can buy asap to get rid of these things and where from as I haven't got a clue.
Also a few questions .....
* Can these things spread from pot to pot?
* Once I  treat them will my plants be ok in a few weeks?
* Should I treat all the pots even the ones that seem ok?

Please help

Provado vine weevil killer can be watered on, for the cold months, from Homebase or any garden centre and there is a nematode you can buy, Nemasys Vine Weevil Killer, or Grubsure for biological control during the warmer months. www.nickys-nursery.co.uk/seeds/pages/nematode.htm and www.defenders.co.uk/vine_weevil_control.htm

I think you may have to get Pravado at a garden centre or perhaps  B & Q, its vey good but i would repot all your plants in fresh soil CF  then water in the Pravado.

Also, when you re-pot, use a soil based compost, as peat based ones provide perfect conditions for them. Every little helps, and Provado is the one to help now.

Bought Vine weevel 2 weedkiller (Provado) from wilko's cost £6.99. Small price to pay to save my plants!  ???

Thanks to all for their advice, especially Mr veg (fuchsia expert), I will try the alternative treatment you recommended.
