Can you eat watermellon seeds?

as above. Yes or no.

The reason why I am asking this is because I love melons and I keep finding black seeds in water melons. I am sick and tierd of picking them out. Can you munch them up and eat them?

I hope so, because when I was in Oz for three months, there was no way I was going to remove all those seeds in the water melon salads I had, nor did I see anyone else do so...  I don't think they did me any harm; in fact I was healthier over there than here...

The simple answer is yes, but I have no idea what they taste like !

Ooh yes, and very nice they are too snail. If you go into any Asian store, you will find dried watermelon seeds sold alongside other pumpkin seeds as snacks (sometimes with chilli, soy sauce etc.). I remember the health guru Leslie Kenton banging on about NOT removing the seeds from watermelon when liquidising as the seeds contain B vitamins and minerals,and essential fatty acids. Chomp away, I do!

The seeds contain fat, vitamin B2, and about 30 percent protein, 20-40 percent oil. The seed is demulcent (soothing), diuretic, pectoral (good for, diseases of the chest or lungs) and tonic. It is sometimes used in the treatment of the urinary passages and has been used to treat bed wetting. The seed is also a good vermifuge (expels worms from bodies). A fatty oil in the seed, as well as aqueous or alcoholic extracts, paralyze tapeworms and roundworms.

You could also go for seed spitting contests ;D

Yes, if you can stand the fiddle, wash & dry them, then toast in a hottish frying pan until they start to pop. Or you can do the calorific thing and roast them in a hot oven, tossed in a bit of oil and seasoning.
