Sutton onion sets.
I bought 100 sets to try out,and the cost was 99p.
I have bought onion sets at £2-99 for bags of 50 off the big name dealers(is it fool be me i wonder) ::).Anyway i will grow these sets side by side in long rows and compare at harvest time. They will be fed and watered exactly the same,- so the outcome should be interesting.
Any thoughts by the way ? :)

                            Regards,
                                   Mark.

At amateur level, ie allotment growing, I don't think you will notice much difference, you may discern something this year, but it could be completed changed the following year. You will always find advocates for each method of purchase. I don't really have a choice, my purse dictates mine.

I always buy them cheap in the local market, and I've always had perfectly good results. I doubt whether there's any difference.

As time goes by ...  you will find your taste will govern your preferences ...

also how your soil will effect the performance of varieties.  ;)
To everything there is a season and a time to every purpose under heaven: a time to be born and time to die: a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted.     Ecclesiastes, 3:1-2
