Could be periods of drought, as well - are the leaves flat when you unroll them, or puckered?

JO JO

Hello rosa mundi  the leaves were flat when i uncurled them. the strange thing is this is only one small part of my hedge the rest is fine.
                                                     thanks JO JO

If it were low down on the hedge I'd wonder about an animal spraying it?
The other possibility might be a fungus, but I'd expect that to leave a sign of some sort, or possibly wind damage - are these patches at the end of a mini wind-tunnel? For example, if the prevailing wind hits them as it comes around a shed or thicket of growth?

Thanks Rosa Mundi
the trees are on a windy corner but they have been there a long time and why only bother one patch of hedge.I hope it was just a freak summer thing and all willbe well this year,I have buds growing on it allready this year, hope a frost doesent kill them off .
