I've always chitted but Gardeners World did a trial last year and found that the unchitted ones resulted in more spuds - but they say on their website that this wasn't scientific and could be realted to a lot of factors

I'll chit mine again this year - if nothing else it's a reminder that spring is on the way

I'm going to chit half and not the other half, and compare results. :)
Make the most of today, because you'll never have it back again.

snap caz and baz, will be doing the same - can't bear the suspense of not knowing if there really IS a difference!  ;D

Ta folks.

Any ideas on best places to store while chitting? I'm short of space until i get me tunnel sorted and i've only just convinced her indoors that the window sill is the best place for my onions!

Larkspur

An unheated tunnel would be too cold anyway in say February and they have to have reasonable light or the shoots will be too long and weak. So it sounds like another windowsill. Good luck!. :o

Looks like chocolates and flowers for the Mrs then to try and convince her.

I thought it was cool and light - I put mine on the garage window sill.

Umm, me is starting to think I am going to need to turn the radiator off in my 2nd bedroom ("study") clear off the window sill, close the door and not use the room (be a bit too cold to study ;D) for the new few months except for all my potatoes, etc...

Larkspur

That sounds like my house at this time of year - and perfect for chitting potatoes ;)
