good day

has any one grown Gurkins before ok silly question my forst time so i thought id prepare and ask for some tips seed type :-

ok thatll do for now but the next question will be how to grow the perfect mcdonalds buger bun to put the gherkin in !!!

I have grown what I think were gherkins - but I bought the packet in France, and it said "Cornichons" - they were just the same really.
Grown on a good piece of soil, enriched with well rotted horse manure, and kept moist. I got hold of some chicken wire, and made of sort of tent shape about 1.5m high with it, and trained the young plants up through that - this kept the fruits clean, and off the ground. Also, if you want to pickle them I would say grow 2 or 3 plants, as you need to pick them as they ripen, when small and they don't all ripen at the same time, so 2 or 3 plants gives a better chance of accumulating enough small ones to pickle.

Yes, I have grown Gherkins but they were from Kings, and just called 'gherkin'. I certainly got enough fruit for pickling off 4 plants, but it transpired after all my efforts that I was the only one eating them , so there was no point in growing them last year, I am still eating what is left ...

On the burger bun, if it is macdonalds then why try to copy it, why not go for something with quality ...

the idea was to grow about 8 with the forsite that probably only 1/2 would ever make it ! lol

i'm growing tiny outdoor cucumbers this year which are apparently great for pickling. they only grow to three inches, tho better picked at 1-2 inches.
i think the secret of the mac gherkin is that it's really a 'dill pickle'.

i'm sure someone will be along soon to tell us the difference  ;D

dill is just the american name for gherkin.

Gherkins are easy-it`s that bun you need.

I have a recipe for fresh water bream you could adapt.

Take a bream,nail it to cardboard,leave two days,throw away the bream and eat the cardboard. ;D
