Thornless Blackberries

I picked up a couple thornless blackberry plants today in Focus for £1 each (clearing out their plant section, worth a rummage, trays of winter bedding plants for £1 too!)

BUT all I can find on them is how evil they are, but surely these are its thorny cousins?!

Anyone got any tips on how to plant them and keep them under control?

My neighbour has his on wires, strung between stout posts, enabling easy access from both sides, and easy pruning when necessary.

my father grew a thornless variety in the 80ies. his were called "black satin".
nice big fruit but not nearly as good as the  thorny garden varieties. very sour and bland unless picked overripe. and then they obviously would not travel. not even from his field to home.

Blight - Oh well, least they only cost me £2 if they turn out to be horrible.
Feel really motivated to go and spend time etc... planting out and building supports now!!  :'(
