I have been growing onions from seds forthe first time this yera and they looked rather good, untill saturday. They had developed thick blown stalks and after consultation with the man opposite it was declared that they had gone to seed and needed outing.Which i did. However, there was no onion bulb at the base and they looked just like leeks. At home after trimming, peeling etc they looked and tasted like leeks when cooked.

Now, were they leek seeds in an onion packet or were they onions that i had not grown properly!! which is the most sensible answer.

Any suggestions as to what has happened? Think that i will stick to sets again in future but would love to know what has gone wrong.

Sounds like they were onions. I'm using onion sets as I've heard its quite difficult to grow them from seed.  :)
Make the most of today, because you'll never have it back again.
