just been to lottie

it took twenty minutes to open gate-new lock

the fresh manure i ordered was all over the path and v stinky

rabbits dug up and half eaten most of parnips

dug up the rest and they were mutant and tiny

mud all over cream suede boots-ruined

then tripped and fell into manure on way out

happy days ;D

am thinking of something to do with my mutant parsnips now

i saw the funny side of it.. forgot the wellies and didn't expect the simple lottie trip to turn out this way

any ideas why the parsnips have numerous roots of various sizes?

Yep-soil not just so so,stones,root disturbance,sod`s law?-and maybe not enough water-it`s still a bit early to be harvesting them-patience is a virtue-if a pain in the bum at times

Hi sammyd, Poor you, just not your day.  In retrospect it must have made you laugh, even though at the time it is not so funny.

  I always remember one year going camping with a group of friends.  We chose a field in Weardale, dumped our things and went to the pub.  Many hours later after having had a few we all made our way to the field.  It had started to rain, was pitch black and we had to cross some stepping stones over a raging rapid to get to our camp.  Then we had to erect the tents in the dark.  It was a very uncomfortable night, lying on a slope with rain pouring down and through the tent where we were lying.  But years later every time someone mentions camping I think of that night and it makes me laugh.

Parsnips do like a sandy soil with no stones in the way of the roots.  My parsnip greenery looks great but like yours you never know how they have done until you dig them up.
There is always next year, and you have made some bunnies very happy. Lucky you to have some lovely manure for next years plants.  :D busy_lizzie

just made some delicious curried parsnip soup whilst enjoying my day off singing and dancing....... ;D ;D ;D

Well there you go sammyd, I would not have thought of curried parsnip soup without you mentioning it, so thank you! you can feel chuffed for that anyway!

Sometimes things do seem to just keep going wrong, a sense of humour is so valuable then!

Hey Sammy, sorry to hear about your tales of woe, but , sorry, does sound comic....! Anyway, I thought that parsnips grew mutant, like carrots, if the soil was too rich? Plus the stone thingy, but I'm sure I read it somewhere, probably here.......Bet they still tasted lovely though! Good luck. Lottie  ;D

Yep, I have days like that too!  ;D I popped in on the way home from work, the little un had his good nursery shoes on, so of course makes a bee line for the nearest, deepest puddle.  :o Luckily I wasn't at work the next day (p/t) and so they got a chance to dry out.

Poor you Sammy! Sounds like you need to get that manure in to a nice big compost heap/bin then it becomes a big hot steamy heap, and after a while it's not so stinky any more  ;D
