Protection against animals??

Anyone know the best way to protect sweetcorn and red onions against maurading animals?We have various veg in our allotment but its only the above varieties that are being trampled and chewed up by(we think) badgers or foxes.
Its our first year with an allotment so we,especially me are new to all this.
We did cover them with netting but it was ripped to shreds.Would some sort of stronger frame and netting do the trick or is there a better way.
Any help would be appreciated.

If it is badgers, eek - they are very strong. A friend of mine has badgers in her garden who go for any veg at ground level. They dug up all her spuds last year. She grows her spuds in old plastic bins now! ::)

We have been told there is a badgers set in the far corner of the field the allotments are in.They have left the potatoes/rasberries/beans/courgettes etc alone and have just gone for the sweetcorn and red onions.

If you want to protect sweetcorn from badgers you should use an electric fence or you need to protect them up high and 2ft below the ground with a strong barrier.
