This was part of a package deal I got form a magazine ages ago! Two out of the three plants were fine but one of them, which was meant to be a jasmine was just a pot of mud with a note saying "don't worry - is meant to look like this, will grow soon!!"

Nothing happened for months, then last month - this emerged in the pot. I am not sure whether this is indeed a jasmine, or I have been nurturing a stray seed form something else in the cold frame?

any ideas?

Hi daisymay,

Well it certainly is not a winter jasmin.  Not sure about the other one though, i.e. the one that flowers in summer.  Hope someone can help you here !  ;)

I do not think it is a jasmine, none of the ones we grow (about 6 or 7) have leaves shaped like that. Indeed if you Google for jasmine images you will see that all the ones which come up have very similar long thin straight leaves. Sorry!

Sorry, DaisyMay - that's a lawn weed - looks like Sheep's Sorrel (Rumex acetosella).

Oh well! I didn't think it was as it is showing no effort to climb anything!!! but thought I better check before I send it to the compost.

thanks

the compost heap is the best place for it, looks much better there than in my lawn LOL.
the nearest it was to being Jasmine was the label stuck in its MUD
Better luck next time Kev
If I wasn't Gardening I'd be shopping!! thank God for Gardening!!

Daisymay.  I have a Jasmin Officianalis (summer flowering, sweetly scented) which self seeds and suckers all over the place.  If you like, PM me your details I'll keep an eye out and send you any rooted plantlet I find.

And can I second Georgie's offer of sending you a piece of my winter flowering jasmine, if you would like some.
