Thanks for that DJ, brilliant instructions - glad you posted before I started my onions cos I'd have got it all wrong!  Iain
Neil (The Young Ones) once said "You plant the seed, the seed grows, you harvest the seed....You plant the seed....."   if only it was that simple!!!

Just wanted to add my thanks to DJBrenton too for those instructions. After a couple of goes, I have now got a nice shallot braid :D Will post photo soon

I've not plaited my garlic this year. Instead, after cleaning it I cut the stems to about 6-7" and then put them in an old hanging basket, as for once the bulbs are large enough not to fall through the gaps!  It's now suspended from the shed roof and it's easy for Sir to grab a bulb when he needs it.

Now the autumn onions and shallots are going to be totally different story... back to the mushroom boxes, which to me are ideal - stackable, stable and with good air flow!
