Gooseberries and redcurrants have all been eaten by birds this year  >:(  And then I find inbetween them that I also have blackberries  ;D  So my task for winter is to put up a fruit cage, which I think will have to be about 20ft x 15ft to cover the whole lot.

Some advice needed please on how to go about it - I'm not fantastically practical but certainly know a Dad who is  ;D ;D ;D

ok lazy

here goes about as simple but neat and tidy as you get i would suggest 2 * 10 * 15fts depend on how and where your fruit is but lets take it as 1 *10*15ft cage to cover plants 4ft/5ft tall like rasperrys
youll need :-
6off  40mm * 40mm * between 5.5ft to 6ft in length(or what ever you can find of the sameish length!)
3 off 20mm water pipe approx 15ft longish
1 off 20mm water pipe 15ft long
21* 50mm screws (Melamine type screwa there easier to get in or what ever you like or a similar length)
Desired covering Net / Fleece / plastic approx 27ft * 20ft
length of Good string (garden stuff)
Wooden pegs
Method :-
1) Knock the wooden stakes in grond to approx 4ft sticking out the ground  bit o cresort wouldnt go amis friendly type mind(to fashion rectangle of equal measurements around your fruit)

2)measure 2ft up either end of the 15ft water pipes and screw one end to each Wooden stake to form an arch over the 10ft width, 2ft mark been level with the top of the stake(should give you head height of approx 6ft in centre of arch)

3)screw of tie the 10ft length of water pipe to the top centre of the arch with screws or string

4)Attach covering material over the top and fastern down with wooden pegs and tie to plastic pipe !!

Cheap and easy to move !!! providing you dont knock the poles down to far

i use all different sizes for all sorts of applications its perfect

(luckily my water pipe was borrowed off a building site  ;))

so many variables and materials that you can use but its just a tunnel at the end of the day
