LOOKING FOR FRUIT CANES BUSHES

Hi All

I am hoping someone might be able to help me. I am trying to source some various fruit bushes and canes, to plant in a border approx 35 foot long, beside a fence any ideas on where I might find some. I am in North London and the few that were at my local centre did not look very well and were rather expensive so I thought I would not chance them. I am not too fussy over what kind they are as my little man loves most fruit.

In the past I've bought raspberry canes (Joan J), strawberries (Maxim), and pear (Concorde) from Marshalls. All very good quality, delivered by post, and going well. Its the third year. Thoroughly recommend them.

Funnily enough, I've ordered my first lot of blueberry bushes from Buckingham yesterday. They are the cheapest I could find. Delivery November.

On my allotment, which is heavy clay (now improved) I grow:
blackcurrant (Johannisbeere), raspberry (Joan J and Autumn Bliss), blackberry (Oregon), loganberry, tayberry, jostaberry, gooseberry (Invicta), damson (Shropshire Prune), plum (Oulins Golden gage), pear (Concorde), apple (Queen Cox and Winter Beauty) and cherry (Summer Sun I think). All these appear to be OK in London.

Ken Muir do high quality fruit stock.  It's not as cheap as some but they have really good after sales service and they sell canes in fives as well as tens which is handy.

I can also thoroughly recommend Buckingham Nurseries. They are a family run nursery, extremely reasonable and very helpful if you visit!

I got my rasps from Marshall's, though not sure if they are going to be very good this autumn given their lock, stock and barrels move...

I have got Joan J (autumn) and Glen Ample (summer) and both are now officially classed as going mental.

The Joan J were originally in two rows of 6, separated from themselves and the summer ones by a yard.

Now I have solid raspberries for about 6 square yards and they're a nightmare to pick! (But I do get *loads*).

I've had Buckingham nurseries personally reccomended to me by a colleague as well, this was for a visit, not their web site. Not been there personally myself though.

You should look at placing an order soon for delivery in Nov/Dec. If you leave it late then the popular varieties can be out of stock. Same goes for autumn planting onion sets, garlic and shallots.
