propagation of heathers

anyone know where i can find info on successful propagation of heathers? we have a few very healthy heather plants and would like to produce more. cheers, MF

RHS book on propagation, find it in the local library. I think the best method is called stooling, which is basically pouring a good free draining compost into the middle of the plant so that most of the stems are half buried, then the stems root into the compost like layering. Next year you should be able to split it up into several plants all with a good root system.

In the past, I have just pegged down pieces of heather into the soil, with pieces of wire. These rooted well after a while.

Softwood cuttings, any time from now to the end of July. Use a peat/sand type compost (or ericaceous compost/vermiculite).  If possible use a propagating case in full light but not in sun.
