Petunias?

Charlotte Sometimes

I sowed some petunias, lobelia and whatnot for hanging baskets.  Not having grown petunias before, when the flowers go over, do you nip them off i.e. deadhead them?

Yes, deadhead them as the flower starts to shrivel. They get very sticky by the way.

Yes, although I don't think I've ever seen a petunia set seed (maybe I haven't been looking hard enough?), so strictly all you're doing is tidying them up. Also helps if you pinch off the first flower or two - encourages them to bush out a bit more.

Yes, deadhead.

Another problem I've had with petunias is mildew in July so a spray to keep it at bay might help
