Turf on weed supressant?

I am grassing over a small 4mtr. x 3mtr. area at home and wondered if I can put turf directly onto weed supressant. Will the grass roots grow through it to anchor it. On the area before were lots of self seeding plants and I don't want them growing through the grass. Thanks.
I found quite cheap supressant, 2.5 mtr wide @ £1.50 per mtr. excellent quality too.

What were the weeds in that patch? There's very little which will survive regular mowing; that's why lawns have their own distinctive flora.

We turfed our lawn last year and were really worried because we had a huge weed problem - all the nasties (horsetails/marestails or whatever they are called especially) and we were told exactly what Robert has posted - not to worry about the weeds because regular mowing would eventually kill them as not many weeds can survive having their heads chopped off every week. So far so good... ;D

It was a herb garden before, which I've now transplanted into pots. Sounds mad I know but that area is the only place that gets lots of sun and is shelttered from the wind so it's ideal to sit out with friends and neighbours for a cup of tea or more usually, wine, beer, cider, basically anything alcoholic ;D ;D
So will the same advice apply to self seeding herbs?

Thanks

Yes, they won't be a problem. I've just seeded my ex-rhubarb patch; it's full of ground elder. It'll all be dead in a few months. When we moved to Cornwall tears ago, we moved into two cottages which had been derelict for several years; the gardens were like permanent pasture. I just kept mowing, and before long it even looked like a lawn.

Thanks for that Robert, that will save me a lot of back breaking work.

Hopefully I can get it turfed by the end of the week now, weather and work permitting :)
