Folding bikes

Has anyone any experience of a folding bike?
If so, please share your knowledge! We are thinking of getting some - but they seem very expensive and I am not sure whether they are any good for anything other than in town riding????

I had one a few years ago. I bought it so that I could put it in the boot of the car to take out to our caravan.
I suppose it depends where  you are wanting to ride. I mostly used mine around town - and on country lanes.
