From what I can see having searched everywhere for information on changing .wmv files to mpeg2 files (read by most DVD players), you will need to find a piece of software to do this. Go Googling

A friend of mine has a 7 year old son who is into DVD games on his 'puter. Snag is, he's ruined lots of them because he's not only a clumsy so'n-so but he has permanently sticky fingers. The games he plays require that the DVD is loaded into the 'puter while the game is running. My friend tells me he has now started making a copy of his most played games and now, when the copy is beyond use, he makes another copy! He tells me he simply copies all the data directly from the original and onto a blank using the copy facility in Win XP. I haven't a clue what he's talking about, of course. He thinks it might not be legal but his comment is that the games are expensive and so long as he doesn't allow the copy to leave his house and that it is only used on his sons 'puter, where's the harm? Maybe the game makers prefer the idea that he should go out and buy a new copy of those discs that are spoilt. Discount for trade in? Ha!

the best way I hae found to make .. erm backups of any DVDs is to use this free prog called DVD shrink:

http://www.dvdshrink.org/

it lets you shrink down the large dual layer dvds to fit on the blank ones you buy and burn on a normal dvd player.in laymans terms :

most dvds you buy or rent will be a lot larger in capacity than the blank DVDS that you buyto create copies.DVD shrink will automatically resize them to fit and also remove any region encoding.

Stick around Diesel, I think you might come in handy!!

There is a lot of stuff out there for the purpose of what you are asking.
Kenkew is right about Dvd Shrink compressing the size of the data on a rented dvd so it can fit onto one that you buy (blank)
If you now anyone that does computers get hold of Any DVD this is a piece of software that will get rid of the encrypion you are on about and allow you to backup the dvd you want

Nero is a good program for the purpose of burning disks either Dvd or CD and making covers and stuff when you have done them.

PM me if you need any more help

Dont screw up the best things in life cos you dont know who you are, or where you are going !!

Diesel

Shrink will burn the dvd for you after it is ripped down to size.

the best program for backing up dvd films is DVDSHRINK  as Diesel suggested.Out of 450 or so movies ive backed up only found 2 that DVDSHRINK couldnt do,i ran these with DVD DECRYPTOR then used DVDSHRINK after. i have found the site below a good source of information on copying movies, converting formats etc with many tools/software off this site.
