Topic: Cost of jam/pickle jars

Just looking at putting an order in to The Bottle Company, from who I normally buy, and see a lot of the prices are up by 60% since August.
Anyone else finding this huge hike elsewhere?
Or can you recommend another supplier?

Freecycle/realcycle and freegle are always good for them, see loads of adds for them and people always respond to wanted adds for jars/win bottles etc

Ask non-jam making friends to keep their jars and it amazing how many you will get in a short time.

In order to comply with EHO and FSA regulations, and to keep my 5 star rating I need to use new jars.
I thought someone else on this site may be in the same situation.

I don't know what price you're aiming for, but we buy honey jars from Colorlites in Chatham.  Here's their pricing page for clear glass jam jars.  A 1lb jar seems to be around 30p: http://www.colouredbottles.co.uk/store/home.php?cat=331

Hi there, my supplier told me that the reason for the rise in the cost of jam jars is due to the increase in energy prices.  Can I just remind everyone that it is ok to use recoiled jam jars for home and personal use but if you're selling your produce at a farmers marker or craft fair, this is a no-no. You have to buy new one. xxx

Sorry I missed your post, and thank you for the link.
I've checked them out, and a 1lb jar costs £1.52 inc VAT and delivery ( and that when buying 100)!!
I'm paying about  £0.50 from The Bottle Company (South) Ltd.

My friends save the jars for me , I don't show it or anything, I just love jams and chutney's and I make sure I give some to my wee jar saver army ,did think of bying some last yr but to pricy for me .

If you sell jam...'officially' you are not supposed to re-use the jar even with new lids on..
