Topic: Chitting seed pots gone wrong ...help !

I left my Charlotte seed potatoes to chit/sprout on a windowsill and although the little sprouts are coming  ( after about two weeks now) the seed potatoes have turned green !    Is it O.K to plant them out like this ?  Will they still produce white potatoes fit to eat ? ....or should I throw them away:(

That's what potatoes do when you put them in the  no problem growing from them.

I agree they should be fine - general condition more important than colour- no soft spots, mould etc - they are better if the windowsill is not facing due south as that can warm them too much and make greener.

As said no probs just keep them out of direct sunlight , if you have any.

some of mine have gone soft and wrinkly are they still good to use?

Where are they from and are they actually sending out shoots?
I've never had that happen with good quality seed potatoes though sometimes they soften a little bit as the shoots come out.

they all have shoots on, not sure where they are from, they were given to me when i got my allotment. the brand is 'beautiful garden' and there was 8 in each pack.

Well you have nothing to loose I used to plant mine about now, but with this weather will hang on a bit. Putting them in cold wet ground will not achieve anything.
Never heard of the brand, what variety are they?

If they have white shoots, then they have been kept in the dark or in the shop too long, which will make them shrivel up.

Through  away any that show any signs of rot, but otherwise they should be OK.
Remove from the packet, remove any long shoots and place then somewhere cool and light, north facing windowsill is best.

'Beautiful Garden' sounds like it is from the pondland or 99p shop, but that is not important, it should say what variety on the packet.

one pack was pentland javelin the other was maris peer. They were in the boot of the mother-in-laws car for about 2 weeks before she gave them to me so they probably have been in the dark to long, anyway thank you all for your help much appreciated.

As said they wrinkle up when producing shoots but if they are longish thin white shoots then they have been in the dark too long, as said remove the shoots and place in the light, in a kitchen on egg trays, you should be aiming for stumpy purplish looking chits.
