Lemon Flower is sweet.
« on: January 28, 2010, 12:28:29 »
I am amazed to find that my cheapo lemon tree from Lidl,  a tiny twig for £1.49 not quite two years ago, has two flowers.  Are they self fertile?  Do I need to do anything to pursuade them to fruit?

Are there any lemon experts out there.

Most are self fertile... but a brushing of pollen to each flower may help as there are a shortage of insects about at this time of year...  :-\

Many thanks for your response.  Since the plant is sitting in the bay window of my sitting room there is a definite lack of insects.

I am just so pleased it is flowering, because it means I can keep it small enough to keep inside in the winter.

I normally kill plants in the house, it is a testament to its robustness that it is still alive.  I managed to leave it outside too long and it got frosted.  I have been away for a couple of weeks and my daughter forgot to ask my husband to water it.  Last year some little insect knawed a lot of the leaves......

I have been feeding it coffee, which it seems to like.
