Can anyone recommend a forum like this but on cooking and foodstuffs in general? There are plenty out there but would prefer a recommendation from someone's own experience.

Ha ha. 200 ways to peel a carrot if it is anything like this forum. Everybody is different and have their own ways. Stick to a book. Mrs Beatons is free online, loads of tried and tested recipes and the added bonus of how to treat your maid or even how to address a duke.
