On the plot today I heard the usual 'tap tap tap tap tapping' from the woodpeckers, but today, as luck would have it, as I guzzled the last of my coffee and looked up in the tree, there they were hopping up the trunk!  Fabulous birds - apparently they nest in our site secretarys HUGE garden.

Now, when will I hear a cuckoo?

Summer is acumen in

Summer is acumen in
Loude sing cuckoo
Groweth seed and bloweth mead
And spring the woods anew
Sing cuckoo
Ewe now bleateth after lamb low
After calf the cow
Bullock starteth, buck now verteth
Merry sing cuckoo
Cuckoo, cuckoo
Well sing'st thou cuckoo
Now cease than never now
