Pond question

When I was ill an idiot moved my pond and in the process built a pond with straight sides - no slopes.
I am trying to repair the damage. I have made two of the slopes sloping. I have some spare butyl liner. Can I use this to stick on to the liner so that I can make the new sides waterproof?

I used something similar to extend a liner to make a bog garden , worked ok for years. the local pond shop sold it by the meter, make sure the liner is really clean , it should be REALLY sticky stuff, you only get one chance to put it together ...
