Onion sets
« on: July 14, 2014, 14:26:02 »
I picked up some onion sets from the garden centre as they were reduced to 10p. (I figured I have nothing to lose at that price)

If I plant them tonight will I get anything out of them before the frosts or is it too late?

Thanks

Hopefully you will get at least a tall green shoot that can be used as a "scallion". It is a matter of conjecture as to whether these will
 a) go to seed
b) fail to grow, are the sets still sound/plump/showing any signs of life?
c)if you kept them dry and chilled , would they do anything later in the year.
Personally I would try by planting now . What do you have to lose?

Thanks ancellsfarmer. I didn't get a chance yesterday but I will put them into the ground tonight and see what happens.

On a side note, I just clicked your profile. I'm in Fleet as well. Small world!
