Famous, Rich and Hungry
« on: March 14, 2014, 12:57:40 »
Anyone watch this TV programme.  I don't think they showed the whole picture.  Thought Jamie was good to try and find charity work for the man so he could get one good meal a day.  I think I could make a great saucepan of soup, with vegetables and a little meat very cheaply, and surely they could buy a loaf of bread from the reduced section of supermarkets for toast.  Cooking should be taught in schools again, and why when some of these people can't eat are they so fat.  Rant over.  Payday loans should be abolished.  When I was broke used to order from milkman, bread, pots etc and pay at the end of the week so we had baked potatoes and cheese and beans on a Thursday and milk pudding.  My children never went hungry and we run out of money mid-week, but in those days you could get a sub from your employer and it was taken out of your wages with no interest, that is when jobs were easier to get.  I am afraid I do not have much sympathy with people that have cars and pets.  I couldn't afford to tax and run a car now I am retired but do have a bike or walk. If they can't afford to feed themselves how on earth to they manage to feed a dog and pay a vet.

I was told once that  beggars can get an allowance for a dog and they all seemed to have a hound in tow. I checked it out and found out the person who told me was completely wrong. But I expect  a dog is a bit  of company for a friendless and homeless person. As for vets, the PDSA will always treat a pet for nothing if you are broke. As I sometimes have a few small dog treats in my pocket for my own dogs, so I always give a 'homeless dog' a couple of treats.

The beggar I spoke to at Wood Green tube station was begging to go on holiday.  Asked about the dog and he said his friend was looking after it whilst he was abroad.  He said everyone stopped and gave him money as he had a dog.  He didn't want dog food just money. Did you see the programme, OK let them keep the dog.  :blob7: :blob7: :blob7:

Watched it and thought it was a fairer reflection than Benefits Street. Thought Theo was good and even Boris Johnson's sister changed her tune but no doubt the four rich celebs will return to the normal lives very quickly and now have a tale to tell at posh dinner parties.

What I didn't understand was that they were all saying that they were to ashamed/embarrassed to tell their friends or family of their predicament but were happy to air it to everyone on TV, also how do the tv companies find these people in the first place??

Debt seems to be a recurring theme, as were interest rates and bank charges.
