Agree with Gazza, a collective reminder so this guy cannot see he is being victimized. He sounds like an unpleasant person in any case!!! Why do some people deliberately flount the rules? It's a power trip obviously. Don't approach him alone Betty, it sounds unwise and unproductive. Strength in numbers!!!

How awful for you Betty, having to put up with this man.

From what you say about the paths, they may not be specific for use by the plot holders on either side of them.  The best way may be to deter him coming up the path by placing something big and heavy at the bottom of the path.  Perhaps a dustbin?   It probably means you will have to move it to get in and out but at least it may deter him from sneaking up on you!

I hope the committee can sort something out.

Difficult about the path if it is not specifically part of your plot.

But I totally agree about Dogs and Children being under control.  I hate dogs on my plot, I hate dog poo even on the paths, allotments are not dog toilet areas.  I also think I would put things on the path especially while I was working.  Watering can, bucket and whole assault course of objects in the way.   Perhaps a set of saucepans on strings, then at least then he would hear him coming.

Thanks again for all the replies.

We have good news  :icon_cheers:

We had a committee meeting yesterday and unanimously agreed that
it was not acceptable for this man to walk up and down other plot holders'
paths.  I said I would email the Council's allotment department first, just
to make sure that they would support us if we needed it.

I received a reply almost immediately, saying that the path is part of the plot and
only the plot holder and the Site Secretary have access.
Where the path divides two plots, each tenant has shared access, and each has
responsibility for maintaining half.
These are not communal areas and access to anyone else is precluded. (Rule 8.1)
Therefore, this person should not be taking his dog or himself across the paths.

I have written this man a polite letter on our headed notepaper and two other
committee members have offered to give it to him.

I'll let you know what happens, thanks again for all your interest and advice.
