100,s and 1000,s Tumbling tomatoes
« on: March 25, 2012, 21:31:35 »
You know what its like, your standing at the seed rack in your local garden centre and you hear........

Oh yes dear,I plantied 4 of those last season and had 3000 Tumbling toms from the hanging baskets,so your greedy ears are pricked thinking hmmmmm we like small grape sized toms.

I follow the lady to the rack and she pulls off a pkt marked.........

Suttons 100,s and 1000,s Toms.

Ok,I had not heard of this variety before but having a few redundant hanging baskets that are in need of some
filling I wondered if anybody had tried this type before and just how prelific it actually is.

I did use our forum search engine but nada appeared hense me asking.

Cheers

Gazza

I had these a few years ago. I put them in 2 window boxes. I didn't get that many toms from them but what I did get tasted sweet and lovely,
The reason I might not have had the quantity might have been that we'd had so much rain that summer and I think they got a bit too wet.

I grew them a couple of years ago and it produced more tiny toms than I could eat. Very prolific for me Gazza. Just a little too small for me.

Ok,cheers all,ive just sown 8 of them in the prop so will be fun to see what they produce, going to give mum 4 for her back garden as she has intense Southerly sun all day(famous last words) that should ripen them off quicker.

Not a true comparison but my friend grew them in Portugal last year & was picking 2lbs of fruit daily from 3 plants ;D. I bought some a couple of years ago & they weren't 100's & 1000's, a tall plum that tasted horrible so keep an eye on them, lots of people had the same problem, hope they've sorted it ::).
