Its not that new. I had it in the garden at our old house and its been down the banking at the allotment for a couple of years, I dragged it up last summer because the birds where drinking from a few little puddles and I thought I'd give them somewhere to have a good drink from. I guess the hole is from me moving it around while testing if my hole was big enough yet.
