Shallots from seed
« on: June 03, 2011, 21:47:06 »
I have grown some shallots ( Matador ) from seed this year a thing that I have never done. They are looking really good and healthy at the moment the question is,....do they just produce 1 shallot per plant or do they multiply like sets do ?.  If they do not multiply from seed can they be grown on as sets the following year ?

Shallots from seed will produce a single shallot, I plant 7/9 seeds in small modules and plant out the whole module, ending up with a bunch of shallots almost like a set that has split. Not sure what would happen if you planted the bulbs out next season, but I'm sure someone on here will!
