Split personality acers
« on: July 28, 2010, 18:59:55 »
Hi all,

I've got two acers that have decided they don't want to grow branches and leaves in the 'fancy' form that I originally got them, but rather in a more basic maple style.

I thought that this be due to grafting the pretty version onto a rootstock, but this years new growth has been from the top of the tree rather than the bottom where I thought the join might be. So that may be my theory out the window.

Has anyone else had this happen to their acers? Apart from pruning the unwanted new branches I guess there's nothing I can do?

Cheerio.

Jon
