Best thing Wardy get your back right before you go near lotty .
Because if you dont you will be tempted to do something and maybe make it worse...A few guys with bad backs on our lotties use a short spade and kneepads .But then again a lot of us are ex miners so perhaps its the way they  are used to shovelling so they dig that way...
Before anyone says owt I aint suggesting it as a way of digging  it ain't ladylike.

After much waiting i have just got my hands on a neat, blank canvas, allotment in Doncaster. It used to be a paddock and has just been made into 3 allotments so it is just an expanse of grass at the moment. I have grown veg before in my back garden but never on this scale. I am planning to put 1/2 to veg in raised beds and 1/2 to happy chickens. Anyone got any contacts in the Doncaster area for chicken breeders? or has anyone had any experiences with raised beds?

Hi ,NCB
There is a guy who sells point of lay pullets in conisborough the are hybrids and good layers etc I have had quite a few off him over the years...
I think he is in yellow pages ..His farm is on the main road  into Conisborough
from Doncaster, Across the road and a bit further on than the water tower ..
I think there are a alot on here will give you raised bed info..
If You dont' get any info on them from this thread put question in Basics..

So why not type in your message on Word and copy and paste it on here. Then you can always go and redo it if you hit the wrong key.

Im at the Woodlands site, its ok and the guy who runs it is a nice guy but really wanted a site that allowed livestock other than just chickens, quite fancied a few pigs and possibly a house cow but its a start. Did hear that there are still a few allotments in Doncaster that allow livestock but couldnt find out anymore information. If you could get me some details on hens i would be much obliged. Looking for some good layers and some Ross Cobbs for meat birds, preferably pure breds.
