Scarecrow at Uni
« on: February 19, 2010, 18:15:08 »
I've been asked if I would like to take part in an event at Birmingham City university next month.  I'm going to take a nice new scarecrow with me....

... I think I may get some strange looks when I carry him from the car to the meeting room.

we used to go to a fate  each year  the scarecrow village  in the Wirral     everybody made weird and wonderful scarecrows  individual  and singles   to a certain theme  it was great    then one year they just stopped it      shame really      you will have to move there and resume  it    ::) :o

This one is having to stay here at home till after the Uni thing.  My husband just walked in the front door and nearly had a heart attack...

Strangely though, the dogs took no notice of it.

All my scarecrows look as though they're related.  According to my son, this one looks like his dad.

It's going to stay in the hall for the moment, but I might take it shopping with me tomorrow.  If the seat belt fits, he'll be wearing it.

Sorry, forgot to answer this the other day.

The face is made out of the body part of tights.  I use two pairs of XLarge tights, knot the legs together and cut the remainder of the legs off.  Then put them inside each other to make a double layer.  I stuff it with old cushion stuffing, or duvet stuffing.  The nose is an extra lump of stuffing, with strong cord wound round it and knotted.

This sounds much more complicated than it actually is.  I'll try to do some photos when I have some more stuffing.

Wow he's great.  :D
Please don't be offended by my nickname 'Mortality'
As to its history it was the name of a character I played in an online game called 'Everquest'
The character 'Mortality Rate' was a female Dark Elf Necromancer, the name seemed apt at the time and has been used alot by me over the years.

But I do have to ask - why are you taking him to the Uni in the 1st place? My mind is boggling  :D

Birmingham City uni is just down the road from the allotments so we were asked if we would like to put on some sort of display at the event.  I'm not even sure what it's about, apart from it's something to do with diversity.  Because nothing much is growing at the moment, I thought a scarecrow might be interesting.

It isn't until March 10th so he will be sitting in my hall till then.

When I take it to the uni I've got to get it from the car park to the building, that will probably be worse than taking it shopping with me. ;D
