Cat litter alternative
« on: October 17, 2009, 15:33:08 »
Has any cat owner ever tried using cold ash from the fire instead of cat litter for their pet?   I have solid-fuel heating so always have ashes to dispose of and thought, that instead of just chucking them away, if I could recycle them into the cat's litter tray.

Ashes used to be popular pre WWII but cat owners did not like cleaning up the ash the cats brought into the house so granular clay litter became more popular instead.

I am thinking of getting one of those Litter Kwitter things to try & teach the cats to use the toilet - has anyone else tried them?
As for using ash I think it would make an awful mess & be harder to clear up than the granular stuff.
