Which ones have you got?
« on: October 05, 2004, 10:44:56 »
Seed catalogues, that is?

So far I've only had two: T&M and Chase. Every time the postie delivers something or when I go home from work (I leave too early for him) I cannot wait to see what other ones have arrived, but so far there are none.

I've ordered Simpsons, Tuckers, Suttons, Mr Fothergills and I'm sure some more. Where are they?

I know patience is a virtue. It's obviously one I missed.
gone to pot :D

Have got T&M. I've also got Suffok Herbs, Kings, and Simpsons - but think these may all be 2004 and not 2005.
I also leave far too early for the postman (which isn't difficult because he doesn't arrive until about 2pm - ooooh, what is the world coming to??)

Sarah.

Another bonus of this thread is that you're all naming companies whose catalogues I haven't got, so I've ordered even more! Thanks.

I have just posted my comparison of three catalogues on the edible board, T&M, HDRA and Suttons. HDRA come out on top so far from both price and choice.

I will also compare a number of others.

My list of seed suppliers looks something like this:

http://www.kenmuir.co.uk/ - Site of the fabled gardener Ken Muir. Excellent advice on fruit. Some good bargains to be had.

http://www.dtbrownseeds.co.uk/acatalog/index.html - Excellent seed suppliers that work out fairly cheep.

http://www.seedsofitaly.sagenet.co.uk/default.htm - Excellent seed site that supplies some unusual items.

http://www.edwintucker.com/Tuckers%20Seeds%2002/seeds%20index.htm - Very very good seed supplier, especially good for spuds, but I am biased as my family have used this outfit for over 50 year.

http://www.vidaverde.co.uk/ - Collection of unusual and heirloom varieties.

http://www.thompson-morgan.com/ - Speaks for itself

www.chilternseeds.co.uk/ - Suppliers of huge range of seeds, good value for money, many unusual

http://www.unwins-seeds.co.uk/supplier_search.asp - Seeds again, no on line store.

http://www.users.dircon.co.uk/~nfarley/thomas-etty/vegetables/intro.htm - Thomas Etty Esq. does not sell F1 hybrids or Genetically Modified Seed

http://www.nickys-nursery.co.uk/ - Mail Order Seeds and Garden Games, Gardening sundries, monthly gardening jobs and what's in colour in the garden this month, ideas and inspirations for hanging baskets

http://www.wildflower.org.uk/ - wild flower seeds and advice.

http://shop.rareplants.co.uk/ - pricey, but good if you're looking for something out of the ordinary.

http://www.janelanenursery.co.uk/ - Excellent web site to buy seeds/herbs/fruit/veg plants etc, very good value baskets

http://www.dobies.co.uk/ - Vegetable and ornamental seeds and plants by mail order. Also some gardening equipment and advice.

http://www.exhibition-seeds.co.uk/ - vegetable and bulk seed orders, interesting onions! .

http://www.mr-fothergills.co.uk/ - Well know brand, covers all sorts. Some organic and heritage varieties.

http://www.nothing-but-seeds.co.uk/ - Some exotic seeds plus tomatoes, chillies. Pepper.

http://theseedsite.co.uk/ - Not sales but more about seeds. Collection, Harvest, Storage, germination, tips, etc.

http://www.mammothonion.co.uk/ - Exhibition and vegetable seed sales and advice.

http://www.secretseeds.com/ - Small supplier based in Devon, wide choice of varieties.

http://www.tamarorganics.co.uk/ - Excellent site with online sales of seeds and equipment. Totally organic.

I forgot to mention my vidaverde catalogue came through - not going to order from them this year. The service was very speedy, but I am a little bit disappointed with the results (perhaps the weather contributed to it, and the seeds were probably produced in Spain).

After reading this yesterday I requested some more catalogues - my postman will not be too happy!  Unwins have come up trumps as their catalogue arrived today - I am most impressed at their efficiency.   :) :)

Gawd, you lot cant help yourselves can you? You can onlygrow so much from seed you know  ;).

I usualy stick to T&M (and perhaps one other). I find T&M have all i need in the way of seed.  My runner beans in particular are one of their own ones (White lady - Mmm! the best ;D)

Got my Tuckers, got my tuckers doodeedooddeoeoeoeoeo!

How can you resist them, they are free, well most of them, most are full of tantalising pics of veggies and flowers, and the prices vary so you can compare, and some have interesting snippets of info about sowing dates, cropping, little hints and tales.

you are lucky that you can afford to stick with the most expensive seed catalogue!! :o

Who me? Are T&M expensive compared to otheres then? I thought the prices were reasonable.

When you say free, i take it you mean the catalogue not the seed. I should think most seed cats were free. It'd be a bit mean of a seed co. to charge more than first class postage for one.

Thing is if a seed company doesnt have what you want  it doesnt matter how much they charge for their products.  ;D

I got tuckers on Saturday. I did my seed price comparison thing and Kings and tuckers came out cheapest so I'll be buying from those.

Richard - T&M for basic ordinary things seem to work out about twice the price of the others. But they do have some lovely flowers...
gone to pot :D

Tuckers' website had been down for a few days but was up and running on Saturday so I requested a catalogue and it's here already, I am most impressed.

Multi try requesting again, it's worth it.  I feel so guilty having mine before you!
