Planting spuds now???
« on: June 26, 2009, 09:17:22 »
I have just ordered some seed potatoes from Suttons for dispatch July onwards.  They are made up of Maris Peer, Emerald Vale and Carlingford.  Are these for autumn planting and winter harvesting?  If not, when because on Suttons website it says that growing info will be with the pots when they arrive?
Thanks

Yup.

They are for devouring from October through to Christmas if you are lucky, but watch out for blight as the suppliers rarely draw this to your attention.

You can cut off all the haulms if blight hits and then leave them sitting in the soil until you want to dig them up.

Surprisingly this didn't mean any keel slug/wireworm damage when we did it!
What if the hokey cokey is what it's all about?
