Yes Mimi - this is their second year in the pond so they survived the winter ok.  I also have some actually in the pond rockery and some in a large pot in the garden, but I must admit the ones in the pond have done the best of all.

Well Eileen, it may be possible :)  I will be thinning out the ones in the big pot so may be able to bag some bulbs up and send them to you.  Same goes for you too Mimi if you would like some.   I've got your address Mimi but Eileen if you want some just PM me with yours.  The person who started me off with these just gave me a small pot with about three bulbs in it a couple of years ago, so you can see how they multiply.

Do you have any idea of the species? All the species of Kaffir lily I have seen look entirely different ( and I have seen them all, according to my references).

Hi Pat, ;) those are nice, what a lovely splash of colour. What is the plant behind it? The reason I ask is that I have some and forgot to label them I beleive they are either Canna or Angapanthus but blowed if I can remember. ::) John, I have just looked in my RHS book and this is what I found. Schizostylis Kaffir lily. Iridaciae. Genus of rhizomatous perennials with flowers that are excellent for cutting. Frost hardy. Requires sun and fertile, moist soil. Divide in spring every few years to avoid congestion.

Roy ;D

John - my RHS Encyclopedia lists them as being Schizostylis coccinea 'Grandiflora'.

Mimi - mine have survived in the pot in the pond for a couple of years now - in fact the ones in the pond do better than the ones in the garden - they seem to love plenty of water.  Depending on how severe your winter weather is in your part of the country I should think they will be ok.  They are hardy perennials.  I will be splitting them when they have finished flowering so will send some off to you. Should be ok in the post if I keep them moist.

Pat

PS  John - the photo does not show them as bright as they are - book says they are 'bright crimson'.

Thanx Pat and what a fine specimen it is too, ;) none of mine have any sign of flowering yet that I bought this year in Rhizome form but they are all in pots so that may be why? ???

I do have a very handsome Canna Tropicana/Durban :) that I bought 3 years ago and have managed to split and give to fam/friends this is about to flower and is a biggy in a pot I will show you it if and when it does.

Roy ;D

Believe it or not Roy my Canna is in a large pot also - I can't believe how well it has done - baby plants coming up all round.  I keep it in the pot in order to take it in during the winter.  Look forward to seeing a photo of your Canna. :)

There I was all excited thinking my kaffir lily could go out in the garden and beautify my pond, only to see it isn't the same as my lily. Tis stunning though!

I have 3 cannas in flower for the first time ever, all in pots, and following everyones advice here, I have fed them well and watered them even more!  Going to get one big lovely pot and get them all together next year.

Ooops - I did wonder Mimi :D It looks a bit large for a Canna but the leaves are curled up so thought it may be.  Egg on face :-[ :)
