my allotment neighbour planted some broadbean seed on sunday - does this make any sense ?
thought its way to late for that

I would say about a month to early. We always plants ours in October, earlier crop to release ground for something else, less chance of blackfly.

When I planted broad beans in September one year they grew tall and soft and were battered down by later frost and snow. Better to wait until October so they go into the winter low and tough.
