Topic: International Space Station

I don't know how well you'll be able to see this, but if you can zoom in some way - this is the International Space Station as it went over my house tonight!

It was over Barry Island between 8.21 and 8.31 tonight.  I'm quite impressed with pic, it was actually taken on my mobile phone!

IS venus the flickering light to the north? I can see that. I thought it was the space station, but it isnt moving.

Venus is the reddish coloured one isn't it? I think we could see that earlier.  The space station is easy to spot - it's a very bright white light that actually moves quite quickly so you can distinguish it quite easily from say a shooting star.

Did you see the meteorite shower last year?

It was amazing, and a bit creepy. Felt a bit like The triffids and War of the Worlds mixed together :o

Reminds me of when my OH and I were on holiday in Yorkshire in 2006.  We were in a very private, isolated place with absolutely NO lighting from anywhere except our lodge and were sitting outside with a glass of wine when firstly we saw a shooting star, followed about an hour later by the space station Zaryia (I don't even know if I've spelt that correctly) moving across 'above us'. It was so clear, it was great!

Venus is white, and very bright. Jupiter is an orangey colour, and again bright. Mars is reddish, and varies quite a lot in brightness.

Yeah we did see that, it was absolutely fabulous, although yes a little creepy lol - had to keep reassuring the kids they weren't going to hit us!  I used to be absolutely terrified of the triffids! Ok, so I still am..... ;D

Sam, you lucky people! I'd have given anything to see that in a black sky. Light pollution is a killer for sky-gazing.

Posie, I didnt sleep for weeks after watching The Triffids with my mother. She wanted me to stay up and watch it with her as she was frightened :-\

I never watch scary movies now.

The film was seriously watered down. It ends with the Americans (AKA God) coming in and rescuing everyone after someone discovers that you can kill them by squirting them with seawater. Pathetic!

In the book, there's no answer,  explicitly no Americans, and it ends with the last surviving humans under siege.

No antidote to the triffids...unthinkable ;D

No connection between the book and film of 'Chocolate' either, if my friend is to be believed. I read the book, he watched the film. I thought he was talking about the wrong film!!!
