yummy fruit bed
« on: August 04, 2008, 09:06:28 »
I am clearing my potatoes and want to turn it into a fruit area with raspberries, strawberries, gooseberries and currant bushes with plum, gage and cherry trees along a different boundary. The strawberries though will need to go in an adjacent bed. The bed is 5.2x6.8 and if it is 1800 between rows I was wondering if the raspberries can be planted as a double row with 1800 between double rows. After 6 months as an allotmenteer I realise how much we spend on visiting the fruit farm.

I'm assuming you're talking metres here?

It all depends on how much of each you intend to grow. My summer raspberries take up an area 1m x6m. Autumn rasps 1m x 4m. gooseberries and blackcurrants  1m x 5m. Strawberries 1m x 5m. That doesn't include the paths between beds.
For fruit trees and spacing talk to Jon Munday - Blackmoor Nurseries. He posts on here from time to time.
