Pink bits on potato
« on: July 07, 2008, 16:26:00 »
Hi

I've taken some of my Maris Bard out of the ground.  However, they have pink areas on them.  These come off when I scratch the skin off.  Any idea what this may be?

Thanks

Lee

A little like that, after it's been rubbed off.

At first, it's a bit like when you put the tip of a felt tipped pen on wet kitchen paper (sorry, best example I can give ???) and it spreads out.  After I rubbed it of the potato looks ok, except if it's got into any crevices etc.  Also, it seems only to effect the immediate area (though, that may be because it's not had the chance to infect further, not sure).

Thanks
Lee

Haha, that's mud, didn't want to clean it off too much, or the pink would not be as obvious.

Thanks for your help.

Lee.

And there was me just going to post the same question - always nice when someone does it for you!

I've a row of Lady Crystal - all are just normal new potato colour except one plant which has pink bits on the otherwise healthy spuds just like the one in Tim's picture.  Having accidently disturbed one of my main crop and seen the same thing I was wondering if I'd accidently planted a main crop seed spud in with the earlies.  But you always worry about these things don't you!

Anyhow, if we think that the pink spots in Tim's picture are meant to be there then I'll assume that everything is OK.
