Water Tanks for Allotments
« on: May 30, 2008, 10:28:53 »
Our site, in Surrey, has decided to add some more water tanks and to extend the areas under cultivation at the same time.

Could anyone point us in the right direction for where we can buy the tanks?

Local plumbers say they can make them up, but my concern this will be expensive.

Thanks

Nope.

These are hefty 50+ gallon galvanised water tanks, like the ones that used to live in the roof until plastic ones took over - but bigger.

They have taps and useful valves and stuff and last a long, long time(unlike the plastic ones in the roof..).

have you concidered a IBC container they are very tough and last many many years and dont rust, just make sure that they havn't had an nasty chemicals in them,  they also come with a 2 1/2" ball valve on which you can put on a reducer so you can add a hose pipe to it.
You can pick them up for around £50 and they hold 1000ltr.
you may be a king or a little street sweeper but sooner or later you dance with de reaper.

We use a mixture of the galvanised tanks that used to sit in the roof and the plastic ones that now sit in the roof. Obviously, the plastic ones haven't been there as long as the galvanised ones, but we've had no trouble with them. The ballcocks & valves, on the other hand, often need replacing.
