determinate tomatoes - baskets/containers
« on: May 07, 2008, 16:31:54 »
can you plant all determinate toms outside in a container?  my main reason for asking is that i am planning on doing minibel, red alert and garden pearl in containers and baskets. now i am just wondering if i can do my roma toms in baskets and/or containers, after just recently finding out oon here that they are outdoor! (was planning them in the g/h, ho hum)

I am growing loads of toms as we eat loads and loads of pasta and chili etc so i need to cram em in wherever i can at home

basically you can grow any tomato outdoors or indoors but they need different requirements as to whether they are indeterminate or determinate

garden pearl and minibel should be fine in baskets (remember to feed and water really well) but I think red alert might be too big a bush for baskets but ok in a container  :-\

Any outdoor tom is probably best grown as determinate as you want the most fruit you can get in a relatively short season. The only question is whether it's a sufficiently early variety.
