can I move rhubarb?
« on: May 05, 2008, 14:26:51 »
I would really like to move some mature rhubarb, a) because its in the way, and b) because it would be great by my pond to give it a bit of shade. My guess is though that its the wrong time of year. Am I right or could I get away with it please?
Thanks

I've never moved it at this time of year.  I would only do it when it's dormant in the winter.  But if I had to move it now I'd take off all the stalks/leaves, dig a very big planting hole and incorporate lots of organic matter and keep it really well watered.  And if it produced new stalks this year, I'd leave them on the plant.  My test question for this kind of situation is 'will I be broken-hearted if it doesn't work'.
